At SureStep, we remain committed to reducing our carbon footprint as part of our broader Climate Pledge. As a consulting and cloud-based business, our emissions primarily come from travel, home office energy use, and cloud infrastructure. By leveraging carbon-conscious hosting through our partnership with AWS and adapting to evolving work models, we have continued to make measurable progress in reducing our environmental impact.
2024 Carbon Reduction Progress
Our carbon accounting results for 2024 reflect a significant reduction in emissions compared to the previous year:
- Travel & Accommodations: In 2024, we further embraced virtual meetings as more customers shifted to flexible work environments. This contributed to a notable decrease in air travel emissions and reduced the need for overnight stays, resulting in a substantial drop in our overall travel-related carbon footprint.
- Home Office Energy Use: As a distributed workforce, our energy consumption primarily comes from home offices rather than traditional office spaces. While heating energy use increased slightly, we saw reductions in cooling, lighting, and equipment energy usage as employees optimized their home setups.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Our partnership with AWS for cloud hosting has enabled us to transition away from physical / bare metal servers, reducing the carbon impact of our IT operations. This shift contributed to a significant decrease in emissions associated with infrastructure.
Year-over-Year Carbon Footprint Comparison
- 2023 Total Carbon Footprint: 313,827 metric tons CO₂
- 2024 Total Carbon Footprint: 221,100 metric tons CO₂
- Overall Reduction: 92,726 metric tons CO₂
We are proud of the progress made this year and remain focused on further reducing our emissions in 2025.
